Design Team Tuesday: 'Adore' Gift Box

Hello!

Something a bit different today!

When I received the stamps and masks from Leonie Pujol's new range I wanted to create a variety of items to show the versatility of the products.  One of the items that I like to make is packaging for gifts -  bags, boxes etc. and so I decided to use the 'adore' mask on a pillow gift box.

The box was cut twice in black card from a die that I have and the centre part also cut out of one side and acetate put inside.  Then I attached the masks to the card with repositionable spray and used gold spray ink to colour the box...

When I removed the masks I used a versamark pen to fill in the words and then heat embossed gold sparkle powder.  I also used some of the stamps and gold embossed these as well...

Once the box was put together it was then finished with some embossed and cut out hearts and gold organza ribbon...

This is the last of the original samples that I made for the TV launch on HOCHANDA so next week I will be showing something that I have created since.

Do also take a look at the blogs of the other design team members...

and Leonie also has her own blog...

I will be back tomorrow with another creation,

Mixed Media Monday: Butterfly Canvas

Hello and I hope you have had a lovely weekend!

I am back today with a mixed media piece that is much more pretty and feminine than I usually create, but was a lovely project to make.

I will be entering this canvas into the following challenges...

* More Mixed Media - Pink
* Fantasy Stampers - Flower Power
* Sweet Stampin' - May Flowers
* Crafty Calendar - Things with Wings
* Countryview Challenges - Use a Stencil
* IndigoBlu - Spring is in the Air
* Creative Artiste - Anything Goes
* Anything But Cute - Celebrate Your Style
* Craft Stamper - Anything Goes
* Rhedd's Creative Spirit - Anything Goes
* Love To Create - Anything Creative/Mixed Media Goes

Here are the items that I started with although I did use one other stamp from IndigoBlu (Big Butterfly) which I decided on at the end!...

I started by using light modelling paste through a flower stencil from Stamps Away and the diamond stencil from IndigoBlu...

Once this had dried I used a selection of paper flowers, resin flowers and paper clay flowers that I had previously made from moulds.  These were attached to the canvas using 3D matte gel on top of some gauze, lace and paper doilies...

When these had firmly set I coated the whole canvas with heavy white gesso.  As the colours already matched my final colour choice I wasn't too worried about making sure it was totally covered as long as there was a reasonable coverage...

Choosing a selection of pink and white spray inks, the whole canvas was then sprayed with colour (Lindy's - coral; Dylusions - bubblegum, white linen; Distress Stain - tattered rose; Imagination - fuchsia, white).  This was dried off with a heat tool and then enchanted gold and blush gilding wax added to highlight the texture and some watered down gesso flicked onto the canvas...

To add extra interest I added some pieces of foliage and some pink stamens.  Then I stamped the IndigoBlu Big Butterfly stamp and the two smaller butterflies from the new Floral Fantasy set using versamark and heat embossed in gold...

These were cut out and coloured using spectrum aqua pens.  Finally I stamped and embossed one of the sentiments from the Floral Fantasy set and cut it up into strips.  After colouring the words with a matching aqua pen all the pieces were attached to the canvas using glue gel...

I really enjoyed making this piece!

I will be back tomorrow  with a project using Leonie Pujol's stamps and masks so do please come by for a look!

Funtastic Friday: Lotus Blossom Card

Hello!

I hope you have had a fab week.  The weather here has been lovely (well once the bank holiday had passed but we are used to that) so it feels like spring has finally sprung.

I have noticed that stamps with different layers seem to be very popular at the moment and it encouraged me to get out a stamp set that I have from Stampin'Up! that was part of their saleabration event a year or two ago.  It is a beautiful lotus blossom set with a nice sentiment too so I made my card with this as the focal point.

I am entering this card into the following challenges...

* More Mixed Media Challenge - Pink
* Crafty Cardmakers - Pearls or Gems

As it is a funtastic Friday I got out one of my fun crafting tools that I really do not use enough and that is my gelli plate!...

I think that I have not used my plate as much because the results are not always as you intend, so I decided that I was going to cast my control aside and just go with the flow!  I picked out some stencils and other bits and bobs that I thought would add good texture then had a play.

I quickly realised that I would need to add a bit of glaze to my acrylic paint as I was too slow at making my print, so the paint was dried by the time I added the card.  Once I had a print that I was reasonably happy with I added some more stencilling with distress ink and then some golden pink sparkle paste...

I then used my stamp set with purple toned inks (milled lavender, dusty concord and Versafine imperial purple).  I didn't worry too much about whether they were lined up perfectly but it was quite easy with the clear stamps.  I then stamped on the sentiment and added worn lipstick distress ink around the edges...

The card was matted and layered and a ribbon and gems added.  I also used some glamour dust glitter on the flowers for extra sparkle...

I am definitely going to get my gelli plate out more often and also try some different paints and mediums on it.

Have a lovely weekend and I will be back on Monday with some more mixed media.

IndigoBlu Challenge Reminder: Spring is in the air!

Hello to you all!

Another wonderful Wednesday is upon us but today is an extra special post for me as it is a project that is also on the IndigoBlu challenge blog today as part of the April challenge reminder...

http://indigoblublogchallenge.blogspot.com/2016/05/april-challenge-reminder-spring-is-in.html

This is because last month I was chosen as one of the top 3 for my 'Daisy Delights' canvas (which I loved making), if you want to read that post the link is HERE.

I wanted to make something that really captured the theme of 'Spring is in the air' so decided to create an altered art piece using a Tim Holtz assemblage clock...

I chose a clock as Spring seems to me to symbolise the passing of time across the year, and also as in the UK it is the time when the clocks spring forward!

I used heavy white gesso to form a base layer then spread white crackle texture paste over the clock...

Once this had dried and the crackles had all formed I used sponges to dab on IndigoBlu cottage paints (marshmallow, lemon meringue & lime marmalade).  Gold gilding wax was used to highlight the texture then to make it even more vintage I swiped some flitterglu over areas of the clock and added gold gilding flakes...

I had previously also coated some card in silver paint then Kroma Crackle.  This had been left to develop and then the same colour paints and wax used.  I chose a circle die that would fit the back part of the clock and cut a piece of the crackled card out...

Next I wanted to fill the inside of the clock with flowers to create the spring feel.  Using white paper roses I added the cottage paints to them then some gold and green spray.  These were joined inside with some other natural elements...

Using a sentiment from 'Enjoy Life', I stamped in versamark and heat embossed with gold powder.  Once this was cut out with a label die it was stuck to the back section of the clock and the clock put together.

For the finishing touches I wanted to add a butterfly and some flowers from one of my IndigoBlu sets, then also the main words from the new word block stamps, 'celebrate' and 'beauty'.  These were all heat embossed in gold onto gold card then coloured with some of the paints...

Here are some more close up shots...

This was again really fun to make, and I love working with IndigoBlu products as they are such good quality.

Do pop over for a look at what else is on the challenge blog and I will be back on Friday with another project.

Design Team Tuesday: 'Art' Journal

Hello!

I am back today with another of the samples that I made for Leonie Pujol's stamp and mask set launch on HOCHANDA.

When I received the masks the first thing I thought of when I saw the 'art' mask was that it would be great for the cover of a journal!

I started with some black 6" x 6" chipboard sheets onto which I placed a selection of sizes of the masks, making sure that the largest was in the middle.

Using both white and black dylusions ink sprays I spritzed the covers.

I chose stamps that I thought were quite geometric and stamped them onto the covers using black ink.  Once it was dry I used a white posca pen to add dots around the main word to highlight it more than the others.

I  finally used a cinch binding machine to put the pages and covers together.

I would also like to show one other quick project that my daughter made (she is 10 years old).  She already loves her crafting and often makes cards and gifts for friends and family birthdays etc.  She was going to a friends birthday party at the weekend and asked if she could use Leonie's masks and stamps to make the card, here is what she made...

There are more examples of different ways of using the sets on Leonie's blog and also the other design team members, so do please pop over for a look...

Mixed Media Monday: Butterflies and blooms

Hello all, I hope you have had a great weekend and are ready for this new week!

Happy Bank Holiday Monday if you are in the UK, let's hope the weather is not typical!!

Today's project is being entered into the following challenges...

* The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge - #24 Butterflies and Blooms

* Frilly and Funkie Challenge - It's not easy being green
* Anything But Cute - Earth Day

* Rhedd's Creative Spirit - Anything Goes

I started by gathering the recyclable materials that I wanted to use which was a bottle that I had kept because I really liked the shape and some cans that I had planned to use for metal flowers...

Using 3 shades of blue starlight paints from Imagination crafts, I painted the bottle, using a few coats and blending the colours together.  I used my tin snips to cut the tops and bottoms from my cans and along the side to create sheets of tin ready to be die cut...

As it was metal (although quite thin) I decided to use a tattered flower and tattered flourish bigz die to cut out my shapes...

Once I had cut out the number of flowers I wanted I also punched some butterfly shapes out using a Stampin'Up! punch, it went through the metal easily.  All the pieces were then coloured using alcohol inks (stream, stonewashed denim, meadow, oregano and silver).  Then I added a little bit of blue diamond sparkle texture paste to the metal parts and to the top of the bottle using my finger to dab it on.  All the pieces were then glued to the bottle using glue gel for a firm hold...

I resisted the temptation to add anything else as I thought that this made quite a nice simple Earth Day tribute.

I am back tomorrow with a design team post for Leonie Pujol, showing one of the samples that was on the television launch a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks for reading,

Altered Eclectics - Owl Photo Frame

A surprise hello from me this Sunday!

I am very pleased to announce that I am now a design team member for the fantastic mixed media challenge blog... Altered Eclectics

Today is the start of a brand new challenge and as always the theme is 'Anything Goes' as long as it is mixed media or altered art (no cards, ATC's etc.)

My design team piece for this month started with this white plastic photo frame that I got from a bargain price shop...

I started by taking it apart and then painted it with a coat of heavy white gesso to provide a key to the colours that I wanted to put on.  Once the gesso had dried I used cottage acrylic paints from IndigoBlu (marshmallow, lemon meringue and lime marmalade), sponging it on and then adding more where needed...

To add extra sparkle I spritzed the whole project with a gold mica spray and dried with my heat tool.  Then to highlight the texture of the frame and to add a slightly more vintage look I used gold gilding wax from Pebeo...

To create a focal point for where the photo would usually be I chose 3 circle dies that would fit the space well.  The largest layer was cut from vintage gold card, the second layer was created by using the same colour paints as the main piece onto card, then spritzed with gold spray.  This was then stamped with a flourish stamp by Leonie Pujol and heat embossed with gold powder.  The final layer was for the sentiment by Stampers Anonymous and again heat embossed in gold.  Using blending brushes I added some worn lipstick and mustard seed distress inks for a more subtle centre...

Finally to add some finishing touches I wanted to have some flowers and foliage.  I selected 3 different size cream coloured paper flowers from my stash and sprayed them with a light gold mica spray.  Once dry I added some gold gilding wax and some pink glitter mixed with soft gloss gel medium.  To frame them I also used some die cut leaves and dried flower bits...

These were placed onto the frame using glue gel...

A completed project!  My second owl in a week, but they are such beautiful creatures and fun to create with.

I hope you enjoyed my first design team project for Altered Eclectics.  Do please pop over to the challenge for a look at all the other DT members projects, and also to enter your own.  There is a link to the blog HERE and you will also see it on my blog list in the sidebar to the right.

Happy crafting,

Jane x
