Circle Crazy Journal Page for Bee Crafty

Hello!

On the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog today I thought I would share another couple of art journal pages with you...

As I do more pages I have realised that I really like circles so decided to raid my Bee Crafty stash for as many circles as possible!

I started these pages by using a palette knife with white gesso and crackle paste, then once this had dried used Dylusions ink sprays (lemon, bubble gum pink and funky fuchsia) plus spritzes of water to help them flow and blend...

Next I used the circle lattice d'inkable with white gesso and then the circle d'inkable with the matching dylusions paints.  For added texture and layers I used a couple of the texture border stamps with archival inks that matched the tones of the pages.  I wanted to add some black as a contrast to all the bright colours so used black gesso through the chevrons d'inkable...

More circles were added using one of the texture circle stamps and black archival ink.  To help them stand out I used some white gesso to colour the centres then added some more black stamping with the retro dash and dots stamp...

The large creativity words were stamped onto card coloured with the dylusions paint and then once added to the pages some pen added around the edges to help them stand out.  At this point I decided that there were areas of the pages that needed something extra, so using the paint again I coloured some more card and stamped the medium style wire circle onto them...

More of the circle lattice stencil was added to these two before being adhered to the pages.

These are the products that I used:

* Style Wire Circles
* Retro Dash and Dots
* Texture Borders
* Texture Circles
* Large Creativity Words
* Circle Lattice D'inkable
* Circles D'inkable
* Chevrons D'inkable
* Dylusions Ink Sprays
* Dylusions Paints
* Archival Inkpads

Hopefully those colours have helped to brighten up your day!

Happy crafting,

Rusty Plaque for Tando Creative

Hello!

This week on the Tando Creative blog we are celebrating all thing rust.  Rust is one of my favourite techniques when creating mixed media projects and there are a variety of products and ways to achieve that particular look.  For my rust I used a range of Decoart media products to create my rusty plaque...

I started by using structure paste with the Tando Criss Cross stencil onto a large media board.  Then I added sand texture paste with my finger mostly around the edges and also small amounts in the centre.
Once this was all dry I painted it with metallic silver paint, then a wash of paynes grey and then a wash of quinacridone gold.  To create the rusty areas I used 3 shades of paint on top of the sand texture.  I tend to start with a yellow tone first (transparent yellow oxide), then a reddish brown (burnt sienna) and finally a dark brown (burnt umber) and used a stippling action with a stencil brush...

To add to the plaque I chose a mixture of grey board hearts, cogs, numbers and wings.  The largest cog, wing and word were coloured in the same way as the plaque.  The numbers and smaller cogs were painted with paynes grey and then a wash of quinacridone gold and finished with a little bit of gold gilding wax.  The hearts were painted with pyrole red then coated with crackle glaze and once dried finished again with gilding wax...

Once the main pieces had all been placed the sentiment from Visible Image was stamped onto card and coloured with some distress ink before also being added to the plaque...

The final touch was to add some rusty wire as a hanger.

Here are the products used...

* Media Board
* Cogs
* Hearts
* Imagine
* Wings
* Criss Cross Stencil
* Decoart Media Line

I am really looking forward to seeing the other rusty projects this week and hopefully trying some of the techniques out!

Happy crafting,

Papyrus Plaque for Bee Crafty

Hello!

Today on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog I am sharing one of my Egyptian samples with you.  The new stamps and stencils were fab to work with and I really wanted to use the large background to create my own papyrus to use on one of the art boards.

To make the papyrus I started with some cheap tracing paper that I coloured with watered down acrylic paint.  Once this was dry I stamped the background using archival ink then added some splashes of paint...

I then tore pieces from the sheet and used a dark brown ink around the edges...

To create the main plaque I used one of the MDF art boards, first coating it with gesso then adding crackle paste to areas...

Once this had dried washes of acrylic paint were added in various shades of brown, some was also dripped from the top to add even more of an aged look and some burnt umber antiquing cream was added to the crackled areas...

Stencilling was added to the background using one of the d'inkables and gold paint...

Next the sphinx was stamped onto the board using Versafine and then clear embossed...

I used permanent pens to add a bit of extra colour to the sphinx then stuck the papyrus onto the plaque using gel medium.  Finally one of the words was stamped onto card, distress ink added around the edges and then layered onto the art board on another piece of papyrus...

Here are the links to the products I used...

* MDF - Art Boards Landscape
* Art Stamps - Sphinx
* Backdrops XL - Egyptian
* Wordage - Life Words 1
* D'inkables - Egyptian Set

Thank you for taking a look, happy crafting!

Love is in the Air Art Journal Page for Bee Crafty

Hello!

As it is almost Valentine's Day I decided that this week on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty Blog I would share with you a heart filled art journal page...

I started by using a palette knife to apply white gesso to the page then some crackle paste in areas...

Next I applied some pink tones using watercolour pigment sticks, adding extra across the crackle paste to get a deeper colour into the crackles.  I used the same shades of acrylic paint, applying it in patches with my fingers and then added in some blue for a bit of contrast...

For my background I then added some stamping.  I used two of the texture border stamps with a blue and pink archival inkpad and the XL script stamp (one of my go to stamps!) with black archival.  For even more interest I then used the heart d'inkable with white gesso and added a few white splatters...

For my focal points I wanted some big and bold hearts, so I stamped the 3 different sizes of style wire hearts onto card with archival ink and after cutting them out added paint then some of the script stamp.  When they had been stuck to the page I coated them with glossy accents and whilst still wet added fine glitter and a chunky glitter to them...

Once these had dried over night I decided that I wanted the hearts to become balloons so drew in the strings and then stamped the Love sentiment onto a piece of card which was coloured with paint to match the page...

A last touch of extra sparkle was then added using a clear sparkle pen to areas of the page.

Here are the links to the products used...

* Backdrop Frames - Style Wire Hearts
* Backdrops - XL Script
* Backdrop Borders - Texture Borders
* Wordage - Love
* D'Inkable - Hearts

Thank you for taking the time to look, happy crafting!

This week on the Tando Creative blog the theme is leaves and frames so I decided to decorate one of the shadow frames with the mini leaves and flowers...

I wanted to go for a bright and fairly simple look using acrylic paints for the colours...

The 4 x 4 Leaves 1 stencil was used with structure paste on the base for a bit of extra texture...

The pieces were all finished with some gold gilding wax and finally a sentiment from an IndigoBlu set...

These are the products used...

* Shadow Frame
* Minis - Leaves 2
* Minis - Flowers
* Leaves 1 Stencil

Thank you for taking a look, happy crafting!

Texture Stamp Samples for Bee Crafty

Hello!

Today on the Buzzy Goings on at the Bee Crafty Blog I am sharing some of the samples I made for the recent HOCHANDA shows with the brand new texture stamps and creativity words.

As soon as I saw these stamps I thought they would be ideal for art journaling and mixed media so decided to make a little zig zag journal book that could be for showing different techniques and also hold inspiring words...

The covers were made from mount board and I then cut and scored pieces of paper that were stuck together in a zig zag fashion.  Acrylic paint from Dylusions was used to paint the covers and then the stamps and d'inkables were used to add the decoration using paint and ink.  I also added a bit of doodling with a white paint pen...

I tried out various mediums and techniques on the inside pages and added pockets to put my words into.  Finally I punched a hole in each cover to add some string as a closure...

The circles and the borders had also made me think of flowers so I decorated one of the tall art boards to show them. Again I used Dylusions acrylic paint as the base, but applied it with a brayer.  I then added sections of the borders, some with paint and some with ink to create the background. I coloured some card with the paints and stamped over it using archival ink, next cutting out the pieces to make the flowers...

I also wanted to show the borders altogether so used the large MDF tag as my base.  I used 3 different shades of blue ink and was able to easily match up the borders due to the stamps being clear.  I also wanted to use only one of the large words but show how easily they can be adapted to make other words...

To make these samples I used the following products...

* Backdrop Border Stamps - Texture Borders
* Backdrop Stamps - Texture Circles
* Wordage - Large Creativity Words
* D'inkables - Regular Dots
* Dylusions Paints
* MDF Substrates

I hope you enjoyed the shows this week, I am sure they will be on catch up for a while so you can still check out all of Sam's great demos.

Happy Crafting,

Creative Artiste: Steampunk Shoe

Hello!

Today is the launch of a new challenge over at Creative Artiste and we had lots of lovely entries last month, thank you if you entered.  This month we have a new prize available from our sponsors at Decoart Media...

To visit the challenge for further information about how to enter and to see all the projects the design team have made you can click HERE.

This month I decided to do something that I have wanted to do for ages... decorate a shoe!!  My husband found some really great shaped shoes in a charity shop, far higher than I would ever wear, and I eventually persuaded him that I should decorate them mixed media style...

I have only completed one to start with, but it is still wearable (although obviously not weather proof) so I may do the other in the same style, or maybe something completely different!
The shoe was a plastic type of material in quite bright colours so I needed to give it quite a few coats of white gesso to start with.  Then I used Decoart crackle paint, crackle paste and texture sand paste in different areas to create lots of different surfaces and textures...

I had decided to make it a steampunk style so chose some shades of Decoart Fluid acrylic paints and applied them in washes by adding water to them, this really makes the paints go a lot further.  I used Quinacridone Gold, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber and Diarylide Yellow, then I used Paynes Grey and Quinacridone Gold on some Tando greyboard pieces and some wings that I had cast in a mould with white resin...

When all the paint had thoroughly dried I added some Decoart Patina Antiquing Cream, then once that was dry wiped it back using a baby wipe.  Because this medium is never completely set I put a layer of Decoart Matt Varnish across the whole shoe then added Antique Gold gilding wax from Pebeo and Patina wax from Creative Expressions...

The greyboard and resin embellishments were finished in the same way then added to the shoe using glue gel.  Extra metal embellishments and gems were added along with some copper micro beads.

To finish I stamped a sentiment from Visible Image which was aged using distress inks.

Thank you for taking the time to have a look, and do please check out the challenge blog, it would be lovely to see some of your projects!

Happy crafting,

Altered Eclectics: Shabby Chic Teapot

Hello!

Welcome back to a new year at the Altered Eclectics Challenge Blog, amazingly it is February already! Thank you to all the people who continued to enter the challenge in December and January, it is inspiring to look at all your projects.

If you would like to take a look at the design team creations and also the rules etc. please click HERE.  The main thing to remember is that it is anything goes as long as it is altered art or mixed media, no cards or ATC's.

For this month I decided to alter a little metal teapot that I found in a charity shop, this is how it looked to start with...

And this is how it ended up...

I started by preparing the teapot using white gesso, crackle paste and texture sand paste (all from Decoart).  These were left to dry over night then colour was applied using Lindy's Stamp Gang sprays (Pretty in Pink, Prima Donna Purple, Jazzy Jivin' Purple and Time Travel Teal)...

To add some extra depth to the colours I also added some silk glazes (Pink Azalea and African Jade) and then put on some gold gilding wax, especially around the edges...

I then chose a variety of paper flowers, leaves and other embellishments from my crafty stash (many came from the Craft Box monthly subscription boxes), and also added a touch of gilding wax to tie the whole piece together...

Finally I added a stamped sentiment from Bee Crafty and coloured it with some distress ink.

We would love it if you would share some of your own altered and mixed media creations on the challenge this month, I look forward to seeing them!

Happy crafting,

Jane xx
