Creative Artiste: Journal Page

Hello!

The first Friday of the month means that it is the start of a new challenge over at Creative Artiste.  Creative Artiste is a mixed media challenge and this month has once again got a fabulous prize, this time it's a voucher from Lindy's Gang!

If you would like to go on over to the challenge blog to see the whole design team's projects and to have a look at the rules and other entries please click HERE.

As last month I decorated my journal I decided that this month I would complete a page from my journal to show you...

I started by preparing one of the watercolour pages from my IndigoBlu journal with white gesso
then added some texture using some doilies and applying them with matt medium.  I decided to have the main focus of my page on one side with elements extending from there...

To add more texture I then used an Oval Lace stencil from Bee Crafty with some Finnabair light texture paste...

I have a few Craft Boxes from Anna Hersom and her 'Chronicles of Handmade', and these chipboard elements from Snipart were in those.  Although they have some weight they are not too heavy and so were fine on the page.  They were adhered with heavy body gel and this was then all covered with white gesso to provide a base for the colour to be added to...

The sprays used to colour the page were from Lindy's Gang and are from the starburst range.  The colours used are Pretty in Pink, Prima Donna Purple and Jazzy Jivin Purple.  I wanted to create a darker edge where the embellishments mainly were so built up my colour in layers, drying in-between and adding water to blend and create drips...

Using some watered down gesso I added some more texture by stamping with the distressed diamond stamp from Bee Crafty.  Then some Pebeo King Gold gilding wax was added to highlight the textured elements...

To finish off the page I wanted to add some extra embellishments, so die cut some Sue Wilson Magical Butterflies, which were then coloured with the Lindy's sprays and gilding wax.  I still wanted something to lift the page so added some sparkly gems to the butterflies and other areas...

I also used an old loyalty card with white and black gesso for a bit of extra interest in the background...

The very final but important part was to add some wording.  I love quotes and find them very inspirational so I looked through my stamps to find what I wanted and in the end decided to use this one from Leonie Pujol's Funky Tree set...

My first completed page in my journal, and I hope it will spur me on to complete many more!

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog and do please pop over to Creative Artiste, it would be fab if you could enter a project :)

Have a lovely weekend whatever you are doing and Hunkydory are back on Create and Craft this weekend with a new For The Love of Stamps launch.  I will share some of my design team samples on Sunday.

Altered Eclectics: Oval MDF Box

Hello!

As it is the first day of a new month it must be time for a new challenge over at Altered Eclectics!!
Click HERE to go on over and see all the design team projects and hopefully get inspired to enter a project of your own.  This challenge is for all altered and mixed media art, but no cards or ATC's.

My project this month is an altered MDF box...

I started by painting the box with Americana Décor Primitive paint then once dry added some of the crackle medium to areas.  Once this was thoroughly dry I painted over the box with the Refreshing Americana Décor paint.  Then added some Pebeo Antique Gold gilding wax...

A script stamp from Bo Bunny was used with archival sepia ink to add some extra interest to the box.
I have previously created embellishments using resin and paper clay in a range of moulds (Iron Orchid Designs, Martha Stewart and Stampin'Up!), so I picked out a selection and painted them with the same Refreshing paint and added more of the gilding wax...

Some more embellishments were also then chosen to add to the top of the box.  Paper flowers, metal embellishments and some cardboard elements as well as a gem...

For mw the final touch has to be a sentiment, so I chose a tag and sentiment stickers from the 7 Dots Studio 'Lost and Found' collection and toned them into the box by adding Vintage Photo distress crayon to the edges...

A touch of gilding wax was added to the other elements to bring the whole piece together.

Thank you for reading and looking.  I will be back tomorrow with some of my design team samples for the latest Signature Collection release from Crafter's Companion, it is very glamorous!!

They are being shown tonight (1st May) on HOCHANDA at 8pm, then again tomorrow at 9am, 12pm, 4pm and 7pm.

If you are in the UK have a lovely bank holiday, and for everyone else have a great day whatever you are doing!
