For the Love of Stamps: March Launch

Hello!

The first weekend of the month must mean it is a new Hunkydory launch of 'For the Love of Stamps' :)

This month I was lucky enough to get to use 3 of the latest stamp and mask releases to create my design team samples, and they were quite different in their styles giving me lots of opportunity to try out a variety of ideas.

Today I am going to show one sample from each of the collections to give you a taster, and the rest can be seen, along with all the different stamp sets available, on Create and Craft throughout today and tomorrow (please check the schedules for the actual show timings as they can be subject to change).

Shows can be seen on the following channels...

  • Sky 674

  • Freeview 23

  • Virgin 748

  • Freesat 813

  • Or you can watch online at... http://www.createandcraft.com/gb/

Here is my first project for you...

This mini notebook was created using the stamp and mask set 'Just My Type'.  I created my own book using mount board and a cinch machine then used the mask with distress inks and texture paste to create the background.  The lines stamp was also used to create extra interest behind the main image.  The typewriter was stamped, cut out and coloured and one of the sentiments used on the 'paper'.  The final touch was to use some of the letter stamps and then punch them out.

'Noble Knights and Naughty Dragons' is a fantastic set for creating a variety of scenes.  Here I used the matching mask to create a shadowed castle and the grass outline.  The main image was stamped and coloured using Illustrator markers from Spectrum Noir.  The moon was created with a sticky note mask and water was flicked over the distress ink background to add some starry texture.

My final stamp set was great for combining with other sets that I had already.  'Simply Vases' gives you 3 different shaped and sized vases along with a variety of sentiments.  The matching mask has lots of patterns for altering the vases which is how I created the scalloped pattern on this vase.  I used the vase in combination with the Rose Bouquet stamp set from a previous launch and the sentiment is one of the many that comes on the vase set.

I am sure there will be lots of inspiring demonstrations across the weekend and I will try to pop back with some more of my samples over the coming weeks.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Creative Artiste: Shabby Chic Tag

    Hello!

It is the first Friday of the month so it must be time to launch a new challenge over on the Creative Artiste blog!

This month the lovely sponsor is one of our design team members Judy and she has a fab prize of stamps and dies, click HERE to go over to visit the challenge...

So for this months project I wanted to use some of the gorgeous bits and pieces that I have in my crafty stash as well as adding some stencilling, stamping and die cutting so this is the shabby chic piece that I created...

I started with a grey board tag from Tando Creative which I painted with white gesso before adding some stencilling of light paste through a mini distressed diamond stencil from Bee Crafty.  I then added a selection of paper flowers, leaves and a metal charm from Craft Box, and also a pocket watch and small rose that I had created using resin and an IOD mould from Prima...

This was then all painted over with more white gesso to create a good base for the colour...

I used spray inks from Lindy's stamp gang to add colour and brushed on some luscious powders from IndigoBlu.  Stamping was then added using a harlequin stamp from IndigoBlu and sepia archival ink ...

Using the Ariana Lace die from Heartfelt Creations, I die cut a shape which was then coloured using antique gold gilding wax from Pebeo...

Some more wax was also added to other areas of the tag and then I added the die cut to the tag with another paper flower coloured with Lindy's stamp gang and wax.  I also added a sentiment from a sticker sheet by 7 Dots Studio (Lost and Found)...

As a final touch a lightbulb from Prima was added as well as some ribbon...

My plan is to add this tag to the front of an art journal so I will post some photos when it is all finished too.

Please take a look at the Creative Artiste blog to see what the rest of the design team have made, and it would be lovely if you could add your own project as well!  Don't forget this challenge is for mixed media :)

I will be back again later today with some design team samples using the Crafter's Companion mixed media dies which launch today as a Weekend Wow on HOCHANDA starting from 10am, so do please pop over for a look!

    Leonie One Day Special: Typography

    Hello!

A fabulous new set of dies, stamps and embossing folders from Leonie Pujol are launching right now  (8pm GMT) on HOCHANDA.
I loved working with these products and have decided to share the first project that I made with them as it was my attempt to show as many of the products as possible...

The frame cost just £1, and I painted it with black gesso then highlighted the texture with gold Pebeo gilding wax.  I wanted to use as many of the embossing folders as possible, so cut pieces of black card to fit the folders and embossed a selection.  These were the also highlighted with the same gilding wax and then arranged onto the back piece of the frame and stuck down...

The flowers and dragonflies were then stamped from the 'Fly Free' stamp set and cut out.  I used Leonie's sparkle pens for the colour and then coated them with glossy accents...

Next I used the sentiment from 'Fly Free', masking off the different lines to place the words into the pennants from 'Banners and Frames', before adding colour and cutting them to different lengths for the frame.
Finally I cut the words 'Fly Free' in gold foiled card using the typography dies and added those as a final touch to the project...

You can watch Leonie demo these fab products and see all the design team samples for this hour, plus tomorrow (3rd March) at 9am, 12pm, 4pm and 7pm GMT.  The channel is on..

    Altered Eclectics: A Rusty Canvas

    Hello!

I apologise for having been missing in action from my blog but I have been very busy with different design team work which will be appearing on here over the next few days!

As it is the first day of a new month there is a new challenge over on the Altered Eclectics challenge blog, (I will put a link at the end of the post) this challenge is for all mixed media and altered art, the only projects not allowed are cards and ATC's.

I have a love of all things rusty and wanted to have a go at trying some of the techniques that Andy Skinner demonstrates using Decoart products so and here is the altered canvas board that I created...

I started by using white gesso to coat the canvas board before adding texture paste through the Andy Skinner Industrial stencil and some extra areas of sand texture paste around the edges of the board.

Once this had all dried thoroughly the cogs (from Tando Creative) were also prepared with gesso, these were then added to the canvas...

The whole project was then painted using a mixture of paynes grey and prussian blue.  Then some yellow and red oxide was added before finally a mix of paynes grey and quinacridone gold were dripped from the top to give the really rusty look.

Once I was happy with the colours some patina and gold gilding waxes were rubbed over the texture.

Finally I used some sentiments from the Lost and Found collection from 7 Dots Studio...

I really enjoyed creating this and if it has inspired you to create your own altered or mixed media project please take a look at the other design team projects over on the challenge blog and it would be great if you would enter a project to share.  Click HERE to go straight there!

I will be back tomorrow evening at 8pm as there is a One Day Special launch of the new Leonie Pujol products, so it would be lovely if you came back to take a look!
