'A Flurry of Snow' MDF Tag for Bee Crafty

Hello!

Today on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog I am sharing a mixed media MDF tag that I have made using a set of the new doodle art Yuletide stamps...

I started with one of the Victorian Medium MDF tags, which I painted using antique white acrylic then added stencilling through the snowflakes d'inkable using blue chalky acrylic paint...

Next I used one of the snowflake doodle art stamps to add text along one side of the tag with light blue archival ink.  This was very easy to line up and I added it at different distances to create an uneven edge...

Then I used two of the smaller snowflake stamps with some darker blues in archival ink.  I wasn't worried if the stamping wasn't always accurate as this was still forming a part of the background layers...

After this I wanted to add one of the larger snowflakes to become more of a foreground element.  I stamped it directly onto the tag in an even darker blue archival ink, then used my pitt pens (which are a permanent india ink so can colour over the acrylic paint) along with little touches of posca paint pens...

I had left a space on the right side of the tag as I knew that this was where I wanted my main focal image to be.  Using the snowflake 2 inkable I added clear modelling paste, then whilst this was still wet covered it with a glitter embossing powder in teal.  This was then heated to melt the powder and although there was also some bubbling of the paste I liked how this helped to increase the dimension...

To finish my main element I stamped a different one of the larger snowflakes onto card and cut it out.  This was then also coloured using pitt pens before I stamped out my sentiment.  I cut this out by hand and added some ink to the edges and also some pen to match the colours of the tag...

Finally I added some white thread under the snowflake before sticking it to the tag and adhered the sentiment all with glue gel to help create dimension.  I felt a little more sparkle was required so added a gem to the centre of the snowflake and some smaller gems to the tag...

Sunflower Notebook Cover for Bee Crafty

Today on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog I am sharing a notebook cover that I have made for one of my son's teacher gifts as it is heading towards the end of the school year...

I started by cutting two pieces of mount board with a journal die that I have and coated it with white gesso.  Then I used crackle paste through the Mandala 5 inkable and the circles d'inkable and left it to dry naturally...

As this is a gift and an item that will be handled I wanted to use colouring mediums that are permanent and not water reactive, so I painted on acrylic paints but added water to make sure the crackles were still visible...

To help the pattern to stand back out I got my inktense pencils in orange and grey and added shading which I activated with my water brush.  If the colour got a bit too intense I added extra water and blotted with a paper towel...

Once I was happy with the shading I used the Script XL stamp to add extra detail and I used watering can archival ink to match the pencil colour and also because it is a permanent ink...

The Doodle Art Sunflowers were stamped out in both sizes.  Once cut out I coloured them using permanent markers and then added glossy accents over the top, this was to create a nice finish but also as another layer of protection...

When creating journals or notebooks I love to add long dangly charms to the spine, so I started by stamping the sunflowers onto white shrink plastic before cutting them out, adding a hole to each and then shrinking them with my heat tool.  After that I used alcohol markers to add some colours and coated with glossy accents...

Using my stash of beads and jewellery findings I put a selection of beads in matching colours onto head and eye pins to create my dangly charms...

The project was finished off by adding eyelets and ribbon for a closure and the elastic to put my pre bought notebooks inside and also to add my dangly charms to...

Alcohol Ink Tag for Tando Creative

Hello!

It is 'Anything Goes' week on the Tando Creative blog so I thought I would have a go at something a bit different.  I am really loving my alcohol inks at the moment and wanted to use them on one of the greyboard technique tags but as they would not work on the board surface I decided to cover my tag using YUPO paper which is a special synthetic paper that works with the inks as it is non porous...

I started by drawing around the tag onto the YUPO paper and then cut it out.  I used Decoart Decoupage Matt to stick it to the tag.  Using a selection of pink, yellow and orange alcohol inks I applied the ink and blew it around until I was happy with the look, then added gold foil which adhered to the tacky areas...

The tag was left to dry overnight and then I used alcohol lift ink from the re inker bottle onto a foam blending tool and placed it through the distressed diamond mini stencil.  I then dabbed off the residue before burnishing the areas to lift the ink...

Next I used some red archival ink with a script stamp...

As the background was quite bright I wanted the focal points to have more of a silhouette look, so I chose a butterfly from the Tando butterfly grab bag as well as two Tando flowers with stems.

These were painted with black gesso then I added a couple of layers of black embossing powder which I stamped into with the same script stamp from earlier.  To help the texture stand out I rubbed on a little bit of gold gilding wax...

These were then adhered to the tag using glue and foam pads for extra dimension and a Tim Holtz sticker added as a finishing touch...

Layering Flourish Media Board for Tando Creative

Today on the Tando Creative blog I am sharing one of the large media boards that I have decorated using one of the new layering stencils in different ways...

I started by using the second layer of the stencil with texture paste onto the board, then coated it all with white gesso.  To add colour I used brusho powders.  To create a more vintage feel I sponged over some glue then put on gold foil...

For more background interest I used the third layer of the stencil with clear ink and gold embossing powder. 

To create a focal element I drew around the first layer of the stencil on metallic card then cut it out.  The second layer was added with black gesso then the third was clear texture paste sprinkled with black glitter...

On the background of the board I added some script stamping using black archival ink before painting some clay pieces that I had previously cast with black gesso then rubbing over gold gilding wax...

Once all the pieces were adhered I then added some sticker sentiments.

'Dancing Dolphins' for Craftascope Monthly July Blog Hop - Sea & Beach

I am here today with my first participation in the Craftascope monthly blog hop!!  Nick has a fab group over on Facebook called 'Craftascope Makes' which you can find here...

There you will find a wonderful group of crafters that share all sorts of projects in many different mediums and from lots of various companies. 

Within that group the fabulous Jacqueline has started a monthly blog hop to help spread the craftiness and this month I am taking part.  If you have a blog and want to join in the fun just let her know.

This month the theme is 'Sea & Beach'.  This could be influenced by the colours or the images that this evokes, whatever the theme makes you think of.  The star of the project must be from Craftascope but other products and companies are allowed.

 I decided to do some art journaling in my 6" watercolour journal which I love, and the theme immediately made me think of blues and dolphins...

 

I started by collecting together all the distress oxide pads that I had in shades of blue.  The pads were squished onto an acrylic block then spritzed with water before placing on the spread, I did this a colour at a time, drying in between.  The colours I used were Broken China, Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers...

 



 

Next I added some stamping using my favourite Craftascope stamp set 'Such A Card'.  I selected some of the stamps that made me think of swirls in the water and stamped them with the same distress oxide inks plus Faded Jeans.  I also added some of the text as I love the look on the page and used archival ink to create a stronger impression...

 



 

After the stamping I felt that some stencilling was needed.  So I used the 'Fancy Flourish' stencil with white gesso over the centre of the spread, his made me think of the waves crashing...

 



 

Finally I created my focal images.  I started by making a distress oxide background on watercolour card using the same colours, then stamped the dolphins and sentiment from the original stamp set that Nick brought to Craftascope onto the background using Cobalt Archival ink.  These were then all cut out and adhered to the page.  I added some white cambric under the sentiment for a little bit of extra texture then as a final splash (as it was a sea theme!) I added some blue acrylic paint splatters...

'Expressive Circles' Art Journal Spread for Bee Crafty

This week on the Buzzy Goings on at Bee Crafty blog I am sharing some art journaling with you...

This spread was one that I did with no expectations or idea of how it would develop when I first started.  I went with the flow and did what I felt as it emerged!

 

To begin I applied acrylic paint in circles starting from the centre and moving outwards, then I spread it with a brush and my fingers, adding extra colours as I wanted.

 

Once I was happy with the main base I used the alternate circles inkable with black gesso then once that was dry added doodling with my white posca pen...

 

 

Next I felt like adding stamping and decided to stick with the circle theme.  I used one of the style wire borders as fronds emerging from the centre then added parts of the circle border stamp.  To create a brighter look I used colourful paint pens and I thought this made the border stamping look like pieces of washi tape which I really liked...

 

 

Finally I needed to add some focal elements and as the background was so bright and abstract decided that the doodle butterfly would be ideal.  I stamped and cut them out and used the same paint pens to colour them.  I did not want an actual sentiment but as soon as I looked at the creative words stamp set, 'expression' seemed perfect as it reflected how I felt about the spread...

 

 

This was one of my favourite art journal spreads to create and if art journaling is something you feel you would like to try I would say just go for it, there are no rules and it is really freeing and enjoyable!
